A product page can show what you sell. It cannot tell a warehouse which variant to pick, how to pack it or what to do when the order changes. Before increasing dropshipping volume from China, use a defined first batch to make those instructions workable.

Start with a specific question
The purpose of a first batch is to find out whether everyone is working from the same order information. A successful delivery alone does not show whether receiving, picking and packing can be repeated reliably. Decide what you want to observe before choosing the batch.
For example, consider an illustrative store selling one item in two colours. This is a planning example, not a customer result. Include both variants so the receiving and picking instructions must distinguish them. Avoid adding product complexity simply to make the test look comprehensive.
Connect stock to the order line
Give each variant a product reference and a clear description or reference photo. The supplier’s carton description and your store’s product name may be different. Agree which reference the handling team will use.
- Receiving: what quantity and variant does the team expect?
- Picking: which reference identifies the item on each order?
- Packing: which protection and package apply to that item?
- Changes: who approves a replacement, cancellation or revised instruction?
Observe the handovers, not just the final parcel
After the batch, compare the receiving record with the expected goods and the prepared orders with your approved instructions. Identify where a difference was noticed and who decided the next action. A missing variant and a changed packing instruction require different responses.
Warehouse receipt, preparation and carrier acceptance are separate stages. Ask what update identifies each stage in your agreed workflow. A prepared package is not by itself evidence that a carrier has accepted it.
Use the result to revise the working scope
Record what was unclear, what the team clarified and which instruction needs changing before the next batch. Agree the current version in writing. Increasing volume while the product references remain ambiguous can repeat the same problem more often.
Discuss the handling charges alongside the workflow: receiving, storage if needed, picking, packaging, dispatch and exceptions. A store connection, a return arrangement or a fixed storage period needs its own confirmation; it does not follow automatically from the word dropshipping.
