We help coordinate DDP and DAP arrangements subject to route and cargo approval. The term and exact named destination should be in the agreement and quote.
What to agree before starting
Under Incoterms® 2020, DDP puts import clearance and import duties on the seller. Under DAP, the buyer handles import clearance and duties. In both, unloading is generally the buyer’s responsibility. Check who is permitted to act as importer.
Cost & confirmation
Do not assume everything is included from the service name. Specify taxes, clearance, delivery, unloading and extras. This explanation is not legal or tax advice.
Put the delivery point next to the term
For a sale using Incoterms® 2020, state DDP or DAP together with the exact named destination and version. Both generally put unloading on the buyer; DDP puts import clearance, duties and taxes on the seller, while DAP puts those on the buyer.
A sale term and our service scope are separate agreements
Identify the seller, buyer and permitted importer, then confirm which logistics tasks we are commissioned to arrange. Incoterms do not by themselves settle payment or ownership. Do not treat the letters DDP as a promise that insurance, returns or every possible expense is included.
Questions along the way
Can I choose DDP before the goods are reviewed?
Tell us your preference, but the cargo, route and import arrangement need approval. The exact service scope and charges are then confirmed in writing.
Does DAP mean there are no import charges?
No. In an applicable DAP sale, import clearance, duties and taxes are the buyer’s responsibility. The actual taxes and handling charges still depend on the shipment.
